Keynote Speaker

Headlining our event is our keynote speaker, Kayson Brown. Kayson is a passionate music educator whose primary goal is to inspire audiences and the young musicians he directs. As the director of the Lyceum Youth Orchestras Program, he oversees the largest youth orchestra program in Utah and a nationally significant summer music festival. He has produced, conducted, orchestrated and arranged numerous albums both independently and with the Lyceum Philharmonic.

Kayson has been featured conducting on PBS, recorded for SONY Masterworks, and has been recognized by Best of State Utah, Utah Music Teachers Association and American String Teachers Association as one of the leading music educators in the nation.

Kayson has soloed as a cellist with more than a dozen orchestras, performed with the Utah Symphony, and conducted more than 25 symphony orchestras including professional, university, and community ensembles. He has collaborated with many well-known artists such as The Piano Guys, Marie Osmond, Nathan Pacheco, David Archuleta, and is currently touring with Grammy-nominated violinist Jenny Oaks Baker. There are a lot of pressures that come with growing up in the internet age. This isn't your parents' or grandparents' world anymore! Get insights on how today's patterns in relationship-building, dating, modern communication, and social media create difficult dilemmas for young people and learn tools for responding in healthy ways.

10:15 AM - "Pictures of Mountains: Finding Emotional Wellness in the Real World"

Kayson will share his inspiring personal story and what helped him to overcome significant obstacles to achieve success and happiness. As someone who has educated and worked with thousands of young people in Utah and elsewhere, Kayson will also share insights on the challenges that young people face today. He will also share his prowess on the cello with an inspiring musical performance. You don't want to miss this!

30-Minute Presentation

11:00 AM - "Sans Solo: The Story of Isolation Among Young People and How to Counter the Trend"

Jim Macedone, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor

Jim will share insights on isolation trends for young people, how it impacts emotional wellness, and ways to enhance healthy connections in critical ways.

20-minute presentation followed by 10-minute Q&A.
